An I-270 ramp and a stretch of Easton Way near Easton Town Center dropped to one lane Sunday, Oct. 4, squeezing commuters from New Albany and Gahanna. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) began 30 days of lane restrictions on the I-270/Easton Way interchange.

The restrictions are part of a $5.1 million interchange improvement project first reported by The Columbus Dispatch. ODOT expects the work to wrap up in summer 2027.

What's restricted now

The I-270 northbound ramp to Easton Way dropped to one lane at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. That restriction runs for 30 days.

Easton Way westbound between I-270 and Stelzer Road also dropped to one lane at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, for 30 days.

Starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, Easton Way eastbound between Stelzer Road and I-270 will narrow to one lane through 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

Two overnight closures of the I-270 southbound ramp to Easton Way already took place the night of Friday, Oct. 2, and again Sunday night, Oct. 4.

ODOT also listed closures of the I-71 southbound ramp to Main Street in its Oct. 2 weekly construction update. ODOT said in an Oct. 1 update that both lanes are expected to open by winter.

What ODOT is building

The project aims to reduce congestion and improve safety near the Easton complex. Planned improvements include:

  • A new signalized intersection where the I-270 southbound exit ramp meets Easton Way before Stelzer Road
  • Widening that exit ramp to create two exit lanes and three lanes at the new intersection
  • Adding a third westbound through lane on Easton Way west of the I-270 bridge
  • Extending the southbound exit ramp to reduce vehicle backup onto the highway

Nearby I-270/I-71 ramp widening

A separate ODOT project is widening the I-270 eastbound ramp to I-71 northbound from one lane to two. ODOT said Oct. 1 that both lanes are expected to open by winter.
