The remnants of Hurricane Isaias are forecast to reach central Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 10, bringing rain and gusty winds to New Albany and Gahanna through Sunday, Oct. 11.

The National Weather Service office in Wilmington, which covers Franklin County, said in a forecast discussion Thursday, Oct. 8, that remnants from the storm will move across the Ohio Valley late Saturday into Sunday. Rain should hold off through most of Saturday, with showers beginning near the Ohio River in the early evening before spreading north overnight.

Central Ohio is expected to pick up at least half an inch of rain, with some spots topping an inch, according to 10TV Columbus. Statewide, some areas could see 1 to 3 inches, though the heaviest totals are forecast for southeastern Ohio, Spectrum News 1 meteorologist Ashley Batey reported Thursday, Oct. 8.

"Parts of the state are currently expecting 1-3 inches of rain from this system, and some localized flooding is possible," Batey wrote.

The NWS noted that rain coverage on Sunday, Oct. 11, will be more scattered and more favored across southern Ohio and northern Kentucky.

Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected Saturday evening into early Sunday morning, the NWS said. Gusts should ease to 20 to 25 mph through Sunday morning and diminish by afternoon. Severe weather is not expected.

The bulk of the rain is forecast to fall Saturday night into Sunday morning, tapering off Sunday evening. Rain chances will diminish from west to east as the system moves northeast.

Flash flooding appears unlikely for central Ohio. 10TV noted that recent dry conditions mean the ground can absorb more water, and rainfall totals are not expected to overwhelm drainage systems.

Some New Albany roads have a history of flooding in heavy rain. On Aug. 20, New Albany Police issued a hazardous high water alert after a downpour flooded portions of Morse Road, Beech Road and S.R. 161. Those corridors have flooded before and could see standing water again if totals run higher than forecast.

No watches or warnings were listed for the Wilmington office’s coverage area in its Thursday evening discussion. Local police and emergency management agencies had not issued Isaias-specific guidance as of Thursday evening.

Isaias became a Category 1 hurricane on Thursday, Oct. 8, the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season. That tied a 121-year record for the latest first hurricane of any Atlantic season, matching Oct. 8, 1905, according to CBS News citing NOAA data.
