Gahanna Lincoln's boys soccer season ended Wednesday, Oct. 28, with a 4-3 loss to Pickerington North in the OHSAA District Final.
The Golden Lions hosted the game at Gahanna Lincoln High School but fell by a single goal. The loss capped a 9-6-3 campaign for head coach Jaden Lunger's squad, according to the school's schedule.
Gahanna Lincoln reached the district final by beating Westerville Central 2-1 in the district semifinal on Oct. 21 at home. That win gave the Golden Lions their ninth victory of the season. It also set up a rematch with Pickerington North, a team Gahanna had beaten 1-0 on the road on Oct. 6.
The second meeting went differently.
The roster featured nine seniors, including four team captains: midfielder Caden Cenky, midfielder Evan Suver, forward Ashton Wilson and midfielder Ian Powell, according to the school's athletics site. Senior goalkeeper Colton Helwig, senior forward Adam Shaw, senior defender Logan Walz, senior defender Kaeson Deck and senior forward Duncan Trupp also played their final games in a Golden Lions uniform.
Gahanna Lincoln opened with a 5-0 win over Delaware Hayes on Aug. 15 and a 3-1 road victory at Dublin Coffman on Aug. 18. The Golden Lions beat area rival New Albany 2-0 at home on Sept. 15. Back-to-back wins over Big Walnut (4-3 on Sept. 26) and Grove City (5-1 on Sept. 29) closed out September.
Three of Gahanna Lincoln’s losses came by at least three goals. Gahanna Lincoln fell 0-5 to Olentangy Orange on Aug. 25, 0-4 at Dublin Jerome on Oct. 1 and 1-4 to Olentangy Berlin on Oct. 13. Three regular-season ties against Hilliard Darby, Bishop Watterson and Westerville Central kept the record tight.
The Golden Lions finished 5-4-1 at home and 4-2-2 on the road. Seven juniors, including defender Avery Yoder, forward Hafit Omar and midfielder Axel Delgado-Lebron, will be eligible to return for the 2027 season. The 2027 schedule has not been posted.
