Plain Township voters will decide this fall whether The Golf Club Company can sell alcohol at its private course on Kitzmiller Road in New Albany.
The Franklin County Board of Elections certified two local option ballot issues for the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election, according to the county's certified ballot document published Aug. 16. Issue #46A would authorize weekday sales of beer, wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor (hard liquor) at 4522 Kitzmiller Road. Issue #46B would authorize Sunday sales of wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor at the same address.
Only voters in Plain Township Precinct A would cast ballots on the two issues. A yes vote would not change alcohol rules for any other business in the precinct.
What's different about the two issues
Issue #46A covers weekday alcohol sales across all categories: beer, wine, mixed beverages and spirits. Issue #46B is narrower, covering only Sunday sales of wine, mixed beverages and spirits.
Both are independent questions. Voters could approve one and reject the other.
How Ohio's local option works
That structure is by design. Under Ohio's local option law, a "particular location" election is the most common path for a single business to gain liquor-sale authority without affecting neighbors, according to the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. The vote applies only to The Golf Club Company's specific address.
About the club
The Golf Club is a private, members-only course designed by architect Pete Dye that opened in 1967, according to its website. Golf Digest ranks it 46th on its 2025–26 "100 Greatest" list and second in Ohio.
What happens next
Plain Township Precinct A voters will see both issues on their ballots Nov. 3. If approved, The Golf Club Company would be eligible to apply for an Ohio liquor permit covering the authorized sale categories.
