New Albany will host a free drop-off event for old electronics, household hazardous waste, confidential papers and worn-out clothing on Oct. 10. The collection runs 8 a.m. to noon at the Water's Edge complex, 7795 Walton Pkwy.

The city announced the event in a Sept. 1 press release written by Josh Poland, the city's director of strategic initiatives. It combines e-waste collection, household hazardous waste disposal, secure paper shredding and a textile drive into a single morning.

Paper shredding happens on-site and is first-come, first-served. The city said space is limited. Accepted documents include bank statements, insurance statements and checks. Paper must be loose; no binders.

Old, stained or otherwise un-donatable clothing will also be accepted. The nonprofit Joseph's Coat will be on-site collecting names and contact information from residents who want to donate furniture. Furniture itself should not be brought to the event. Residents who cannot attend can visit josephscoatcolumbus.com to arrange a donation.

The city will not accept drugs at the event. Residents should take unused medications to the New Albany Police Department lobby at 50 Village Hall Rd. Commercial quantities and bulk collections are also excluded.

All vehicles enter at the 7795 Walton Pkwy entrance. Staff and signs will direct drivers to the correct lane based on what they are dropping off.

Past event numbers

The Oct. 10 event follows a spring 2026 collection that diverted more than 31,000 pounds of waste, according to the city's official account on X. That built on record-setting numbers in 2025, when the city's annual report tallied 20,897 pounds of e-waste, 50,348 pounds of household hazardous waste and 6,000 pounds of paper kept out of the landfill.

The spring 2025 event drew more than 1,200 vehicles, triple the roughly 400 that showed up the year before, according to the city's May 2025 public service department report. Five hundred vehicles were serviced in the first hour alone, according to the April 2025 report.
