Franklin County Public Health was scheduled to spray the New Albany/Plain Township North zone on the night of Sept. 10, after mosquito traps again tested positive for West Nile virus.
The spray was set to begin at 8:45 p.m., weather permitting, according to announcements from the City of New Albany and Plain Township on X. The 8:45 p.m. start was earlier than the 9 p.m. start times used in previous rounds.
Thursday's planned treatment was the sixth time Franklin County Public Health has scheduled a spray in the New Albany/Plain Township area in 2026. Each round was triggered by a positive West Nile test in local mosquito traps.
That makes six sprays since June.
The five earlier rounds hit the following zones and dates:
- June 17: South zone
- July 23: South zone
- July 30: North and South zones
- Aug. 6: North zone
- Sept. 3: North and South zones
Three of the six sprays targeted the North zone, where Thursday's treatment was planned. The July 30 and Sept. 3 rounds covered both the North and South zones. The June 17 and July 23 sprays hit only the South zone.
Plain Township said the positive test result came from mosquito traps monitored by Franklin County Public Health. The city of New Albany directed residents to the agency's mosquito management page at mosquito.myfcph.org for spray schedule maps and zone boundaries.
Each of the six sprays in 2026 was announced the day the positive trap result came back, according to the city and township posts. No future spray dates have been announced.
