Mifflin Township trustees are scheduled to consider Tuesday, Oct. 20, on adding a new police chief hourly rate and approving more than $100,000 in fire department equipment at their afternoon meeting in Gahanna.

The board's Oct. 20 agenda lists six resolutions for the 1:30 p.m. session at the OPS Center, 400 W. Johnstown Rd., second floor, EOC Conference Room B. The agenda also includes a closed executive session on fire department employee discipline.

Resolution 168-26 would add a $48.55-per-hour rate to the Police Department pay schedule for the position of police chief (administrative). The resolution does not name a specific officeholder or say whether the rate applies to a current or incoming chief.

The pay schedule change comes after the board unanimously accepted the resignation of Police Chief David Briggs, effective July 31. Meeting minutes from July 6 show Chair Kevin J. Cavener moved to accept the resignation, with Trustee Richard J. Angelou seconding.

Two fire equipment purchases account for the bulk of the meeting's spending. Resolution 169-26 would approve $66,326.80 for eight replacement self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units from Atlantic Emergency Solutions. Resolution 170-26 would approve $34,411.46 for a Stryker power loading system, which is used to move stretchers in and out of ambulances.

A separate resolution, 171-26, would accept Dispatcher Lieutenant David Stockdale's retirement from the Division of Fire effective Oct. 30 and rehire him effective Nov. 1. as a full-time dispatcher at the same rank and pay starting Nov. 1. The agenda does not explain the reason for the arrangement.

Under Resolution 167-26, trustees will also vote to accept tax levy rates set by the Budget Commission and certify them to the Franklin County Auditor. The consent agenda includes approval of minutes from the Oct. 5 regular meeting and warrants covering Oct. 3 through Oct. 16.

The board plans to enter executive session under Ohio Revised Code Section 121.22(G)(1) to consider discipline of a fire department employee. No further details were listed.

The next regular trustees meeting is Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. at the OPS Center.
