Resch's Bakery in Gahanna earned the No. 4 spot on a new list of Ohio's 10 best donut shops, compiled by a national food content creator with a large online following.

Discovery Matt, an Instagram food reviewer with nearly 100,000 followers, placed the North Hamilton Road bakery fourth in the state, 614Now reported Sept. 3. Two other Central Ohio shops also made the cut: Buckeye Donuts in Columbus at No. 6 and Schneider's Bakery in Westerville at No. 9.

Bill's Donut Shop in Centerville took the top spot. Donald's Donuts in Zanesville and Jack Frost Donuts in Cleveland rounded out the top three.

The ranking puts fresh attention on a bakery with deep roots in the area. Wilhelm Resch and his uncle Frank Resch, both German immigrants, founded the business in 1912 on East Livingston Avenue in Columbus, according to the bakery's website. Six generations later, Resch's relocated its entire operation to Gahanna at 150 N. Hamilton Road, a move the bakery announced on Facebook. The Gahanna location is larger than the former Columbus shop, with more space for both production and retail.

The bakery described the new store as a significant upgrade in a February 2025 website post about the expansion. Resch's sells yeast-raised and cake donuts along with birthday cakes, pastries and cookies, all made from scratch.

The shop has ties beyond the display case. Resch's donated $600 worth of donuts, cookies and pastries to the Gahanna-Jefferson school district's Lincoln High School Capstone Event, according to board of education meeting minutes from May 21.

Discovery Matt's ranking did not include details on how the shops were evaluated.
