Gahanna's $59 million Civic Center opens to the public Aug. 13, at 825 Tech Center Drive, consolidating City Hall, the Division of Police headquarters, and the Senior Center under one roof for the first time.
The transition spans several weeks, with different departments moving on different dates. According to the city's official transition guide, residents should check Gahanna.gov before visiting during opening week and use online or phone services when possible.
City Hall: the move
City Hall services remain at 200 S. Hamilton Road through Aug. 7. That's also the last day to pay water bills at the current building.
City Hall closes Aug. 10, and Aug. 11, while staff relocate. Phone lines will not be answered those two days. Phone service resumes at the new Civic Center on Aug. 12, and the building opens for walk-in service Aug. 13.
Police services
The Gahanna Division of Police moves from its interim location at 460 Rocky Fork Blvd. to 825 Tech Center Drive on Aug. 17, at 6 a.m.
Police Chief Jeff Spence said in a November 2025 City Scene Columbus feature that the new facility will let officers train locally rather than seeking space in other communities.
Senior Center timeline
The current Senior Center at 480 Rocky Fork Blvd. holds a Farewell Celebration on Friday, Aug. 21, from noon to 2 p.m. Open House sessions at the new location run Aug. 26, through Aug. 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Members can pick up new membership badges during those sessions. Programming begins the week of Aug. 31.
Kevin Schultz, the city's Senior Director of Operations and project manager for the Civic Center, said in November 2025 that the expanded Senior Center offers 116% more programmable space, allowing five or six activities to run at the same time instead of one or two.
Final meetings at 200 S. Hamilton Road
- Wednesday, Aug. 12: Final Planning Commission meeting
- Monday, Aug. 17: Final City Council meeting (reception at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments and a look at the building's history)
- Wednesday, Aug. 19: Final Parks Board meeting
The first City Council meeting at the Civic Center is Sept. 8.
Mayor's Court
Both Gahanna Mayor's Court and New Albany Mayor's Court are canceled Aug. 6, and Aug. 13. They resume Aug. 20, at the Civic Center.
Ribbon Cutting
The official Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony is Aug. 25, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 825 Tech Center Drive. All residents are invited.
The $59 million project, which converted an existing office building rather than starting from scratch, faced delays in 2026 due to a previous contractor's faulty electrical work, according to the Columbus Dispatch. Schultz provided a project update at the July 6 Committee of the Whole meeting, available on the city's YouTube channel.
