Gahanna Lincoln's girls bowling program, coming off a state runner-up finish in March, has a new head coach.

The school's athletics department announced Aug. 4, that Ray Price will take over as girls bowling head coach, pending board approval. Matthew Welsh, CMAA, posted the same announcement on X, calling on the Gahanna Lincoln community to welcome Price to the program.

Price inherits a program that reached the OHSAA Division I championship match on March 7 at HP Lanes in Columbus. The Lions, seeded sixth, knocked off second-seeded Bellefontaine 3-1 in the semifinal before falling to Celina 3-0 in the title game (178-153, 142-125, 190-173), according to State Line Sports Network.

The hire adds to a wave of bowling momentum at Gahanna Lincoln. The boys team finished second nationally at the National High School Bowling Tournament on June 20 at Columbus Square Bowling Palace, competing against 77 teams from 25 states. That squad went 11-0 in the Central Ohio High School Bowling Conference, won back-to-back COHSBC overall championships and two consecutive district titles, and placed fourth at the OHSAA state tournament.

Four boys bowlers cracked the top 60 nationally in singles: sophomore Kris Briscoe (33rd), senior Will Gray (34th), junior Mitchell Genson (50th) and freshman Andy Oswald (54th). Senior Kael Clous became the first individual state champion in Gahanna Lincoln bowling history, posting a three-game series of 720. Clous signed with Marian University to continue his bowling career.

Yvonne Quiero, who coached the Gahanna Lincoln bowling program for at least nine years, spoke at a June 1 Gahanna City Council meeting recognizing Clous's achievement. The Tuesday announcement addressed only the girls program; the boys coaching situation was not mentioned.

No date has been set publicly for the board vote on Price's hire.
