The Gahanna Lincoln boys golf team opened its 2026-27 season Aug. 3, finishing ninth at the Pickerington Central Invitational at Turnberry Golf Course in Pickerington.
The Lions finished ninth.
The result marks Gahanna Lincoln's first competitive action of the fall as the squad looks to build on a strong spring that included a top-ten team finish at the OHSAA state championships.
The Lions' top returner is Luke Cavanaugh, a three-year varsity player who earned First Team All-State honors in June after finishing fifth individually at the state championships at Cranston Country Club. Cavanaugh shot an even-par 71 in the first round to sit tied for second, then closed with a 79 in the final pairing alongside Ohio's top-ranked golfer, Drew Macleod.
"The team is going to be super strong heading into next season and Luke will be a massive part leading us into being contenders in the state championship," head coach Nick Mersca said in June, after Cavanaugh's state-tournament performance.
Two days after the invitational, the Lions competed in their first Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) match of the season on Aug. 5, also at Turnberry Golf Course. No score had been posted on the team's official schedule page as of Aug. 6.
Gahanna Lincoln competes in the OCC North Division and has a packed August slate ahead. Next up is a Varsity Invitational hosted by Olentangy at The Links at Echo Springs in Johnstown on Aug. 8, at 2:30 p.m. OCC Match #2 follows Aug. 12, at Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard, with the Granville Invitational at Denison Golf Club on Aug. 13, and the OCC Shootout at Eaglesticks Golf Club in Zanesville on Aug. 19.
Two local showcases round out the early schedule: the New Albany Invitational at New Albany Country Club on Sept. 8, and the Gahanna Best Ball Invitational at Little Turtle Golf Club in Westerville on Sept. 14, at 1:30 p.m.
