A heat advisory covering New Albany, Gahanna and the rest of Franklin County runs through 8 p.m. Sept. 4, with heat index values of 100 to 105 degrees.

The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, was originally set to expire at 8 p.m. Sept. 3. The NWS extended it through Friday evening.

Franklin County Emergency Management confirmed the extension on Sept. 2, urging residents to limit outdoor activity, avoid strenuous work during the hottest part of the day and stay hydrated.

The NWS advised residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
